Maintaining Your Flame Resistant (FR) Workwear

Maintaining The Quality fo Your FR Workwear

You purchase Flame Resistant (FR) Workwear to protect you. But how do you in turn protect your FR Workwear?

Caring for your FR clothing can help it last longer and continue to perform optimally for longer. To ensure you know how to correctly wash and maintain your garments, it is important to carefully follow instructions provided on the manufacturer’s care label. But the care instructions don’t always include some FAQs, so we’ve answered them for you.

Tecasafe Plus Men's FR Classic ShirtAlways wash your garments in warm water and then either line dry of tumble-dry on a low setting (to minimise shrinking).

NOTE: Never use detergents that contain chlorine or peroxide bleach.

Can I wash out the ‘Flame Resistant’?

The chemical properties of FR clothing manufactured by Elliotts cannot be washed out over time if the washing instructions are followed. However, it is possible in some lesser quality workwear.

NOTE: Elliotts use TenCate Tecasafe Plus fabrics which provides excellent protection against severe burns from fire and electric arc. The fabric’s FR properties are ‘built-in’ and will never wash or wear out.

How do I keep my FR Workwear from shrinking?

Most clothes will shrink a little within the first couple of washes. But to ensure that the shrinking doesn’t continue, line dry instead of using a dryer.

NOTE: Drying workwear on high heat may shrink them excessively.

How do I know when it’s time for new FR Workwear?

If the clothes are torn, ripped, threadbare or frayed around the edges. If the clothes are stained with a flammable substance or has had contact with bleach.

NOTE: FR Workwear that has been exposed to arc flash should be removed from use immediately.

Remember Elliotts only provides Quality Safety Gear, so always specify Elliotts to ensure that you are protecting yourself properly. See our range of top quality FR Workwear.
