Fire-Dex, Medina manufacturer of turnout gear for firefighters, is making

MEDINA, Ohio — News 5 is dedicated to highlighting essential businesses that continue to stay open through the COVID-19 pandemic. One of those businesses is Fire-Dex in Medina County.

Fire-Dex creates head-to-toe protection for first responders, like turnout gear, boots, hoods, gloves and helmets.

Todd Herring is the director of marketing and product development for the company. He said, they knew they could help when it comes to the lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout the country.

“It was important for us to look at our core capabilities. What are we good at? What can we be most efficient at?” said Herring.

Fire-Dex’s answer: a reusable isolation gown.

“We’re trying to provide a barrier that keeps the virus away, and then can be cleaned and maintained afterwards,” said Herring. “What we are bringing to the table here is a reusable version so that you don’t have to throw it away after you’re done.”

Herring said it’s Fire-Dex’s mission to serve those who serve. The company aims to protect first responders when they fight fires, and, now, this gown will hopefully protect workers fight COVID-19.

“We know the challenge they’re facing. It’s in our DNA to work to provide those kind of solutions and help as much as we can,” he said.

Fire-Dex is in the process of manufacturing the gown and aims to make 100,000 in the next few months.
